Local transportation with the Nürnberg Card

Discover Nuremberg with the Nürnberg Card: Unlimited travel on public transport for 48 hours. Use the metro, streetcar, buses and S-Bahn.

With the Nürnberg Card, you can travel free of charge not only to the most important sights, but also on all public transport in the city. From the first use, you can travel free of charge for a full 48 hours on all subway trains, buses, streetcars and S-Bahn trains in the VGN Zone A area - i.e. in Nuremberg, Fürth and Stein.

Whether you want to go to the Imperial Castle, the zoo or the Memorium Nuremberg Trials, you can reach your destination comfortably and without additional tickets by bus and train.

These means of public transport are operated by Verkehrsverbund Großraum Nürnberg (VGN). You can use them all with just one card.

How to use the card

Using the Nürnberg Card on public transport is very simple: carry your phone with the digital card with you during the journey, as the Nürnberg Card is also valid as a ticket. Separate validation at ticket machines is not necessary.

The Nürnberg Card is valid for 48 hours from the first use. During this time, you can travel as often as you like - without an extra ticket. Just make sure you show your valid Nürnberg Card when you are checked. It does not need to be validated on the means of transport.

Practical tips

From the main station to the old town

Just one stop on the U1 towards Fürth, Lorenzkirche or Opernhaus stop. You can walk to the center in about 10 minutes.

VGN apps & timetables

For up-to-date connections, departure times and timetables, it's worth using the free VGN app. There you can also see when and where you need to change trains. Alternatively, you can find all the information on www.vgn.de.

From the airport to the city

The U2 takes you directly to the main station in around 12 minutes.

Children & Families

Children under the age of 6 generally travel free of charge on the VGN. For older children, the same conditions apply as for adults if they have their own Nürnberg Card.
